vlc crashing - just me?

I've always had a problem with VLC crashing, having ignored it up until now. When I start it up, it just dies instantly. This can happen between 2-4 times before it actually starts up and runs properly. Other times I can start it up and run it straight off.

I have a mate that runs it on PC but has never found any faults.

Done a google search but results only seem to show failures with videos running etc. Not the actual starting up of the application.
 
I've not ever experienced this. Have you noticed it doing it with certain file types?

Sometimes VLC crashes on me when I skip through certain parts of mkv files but not crashing on the initial load up.
 
I keep VLC for those pesky files.

Flip4Mac + Perian + Quicktime = Win.

I updated it a short while after I noticed problems, but to no avail. I'll try the latest version.

The files don't affect to player, it's the actual booting up of the application that fails. I click VLC, it bounces in the dock, sometimes it even opens the little player but then closes or I end up having to force quit on most occasions.

I only use it as it seems to support most movie files. I'll give flip4mac a try later.
 
If you use perian and flip4mac it will play pretty much anything.. but neither that combo or vlc can touch XBMC for a media player.. especially for high def stuff.
