VLC headphone problem

First time using VLC player. Audio works fine through laptop speakers, plug headphones in and no audio whatsoever. Any settings i need to go through to get the headphones to work?

Do you have to specify the output in VLC's audio settings?

Had a look and can't find anywhere to select headphones

Is this the first time you're putting in your headphones? You might have to select the appropriate output from e.g. Windows Mixer.

Any chance the socket or the cans could be bust (sorry scraping the barrel there).

Seems to be that the socket could be faulty. Tried listening to a video on Youtube with headphones in, but no audio
