Hi All I have got both VLC & Media Player Classic x64 dvd free software on my p.c but not sure which one is better quality picture wise etc ? as i,d really like to just use one any views will help thanks

You will be able to get better quality out of lower res videos with MPC and FFDshow.

But out of the box they should both be exactly the same quality, without any scaling or shaders.

I've used MPC for years and love it, it's never let me down. I dislike VLC though, don't know why.

Hi there thanks ,i,m a bit thick but what is the difference between x64 and x86 ?

x64 is for if you have a 64bit operating system
x86 is for if you have a 32bit operating system

You should however be able to use the x86 one on either normally though.

I used to use VLC for a long time but videos randomly kept freezing so i switched to MPC. However since VLC released their first fully working version it seems to have fixed the problem so i moved back.

Quality wise i cannot tell the difference but i prefer the access to the playlist in VLC which is why im running it.

For playing H264/HD content all decoders have to have the same quality because there's a standard to follow - it's only when you're involving filters/overlays and upscaling or playing SD content where the picture quality can vary.

MPC-HC has some valuable features that VLC does not (extended vsync, shaders, remember file position on exit for multiple files, audio/subtitle time syncing controls, manual crop/spanning etc etc) and on top of that DXVA. I don't think there is another in development player that's as feature rich and supports DXVA.
