VLC vs DivX

Hi all,

I'm new to the mac os world and am obviously in the process or re-learning alternative to all those really useful apps I know and love on Windows.

I could just install all the options and compare but I like to keep things 'clean' so want to make the right choice first time wherever possible.

So I need to play divx files but Quicktime can't do it as standard. Should I download the free divx player or get VLC? I'm after something lean and simple with minimal ads/fluff etc.

That will let Quicktime play pretty much every common format/codec.

You just need two things for everything.

Flip4Mac - That's a direct download link.

With those two you need never bother with anything else regarding codecs etc, they'll do all you need.
