Just had it installed this afternoon (while I was at work so couldn't test it myself) after switching from ADSL and have done a speedtest. I'm only getting ~13-15Mb instead of the 30Mb I should be getting :( .

Is there any kind of settling in period with VM or is there likely to be something wrong?

I'm using the Superhub in modem only mode and connecting to my own router but I did try a laptop plugged directly into the superhub via ethernet and still got the same sorts of speeds.

Frustrating!

Just tried 5 different servers from various parts of the country (north & south). Getting nice pings but now only getting 6Mb Down and 3Mb up! It's getting worse :( . Upload is always fine and as mentioned, pings are great and no packet loss.

Welcome to the wonderful world that is Virginmedia throttling and/or busy periods. I never see them advertising this on TV!

Even during the non-throttled hours, I've had as low as 100K download on a 10MB line. No wonder I've just signed up to Sky.

Why would I get throttled when I've downloaded <100MB of data so far?

Also I'm not in a student area or anything like that and the housing area I'm in seems to have an almost equal mix of virgin and Sky customers going by the wireless networks I can see. It shouldn't be that busy surely?!

Even 6Mb to be fair is better than the 4Mb maximum that I could get on ADSL with Sky, but I was really hoping to get closer to 30Mb, a lot of people seem to manage fine!

If you don't pay them for the top service (50MB I think) they throttle your line during the day if you exceed your d/l limit*. Otherwise you're probably experiencing their current (for me) bad connection at peak times.

*see here for your limit and the throttling hours.

VM is just...unusable in this area. Severely congested. VM have cabled this street but most people in it including myself, opt for DSL instead, especially now with FTTC on the go.

Downstream power level looks high, I think 5-6 is the highest before possible problems? Yours is touching on 7.

I would post that image on the VM support forum to see what they think.

Turn of modem and on again.

When I had 50 mb installed it was only doing 25mb, someone said to try it and it worked.

Like all broadband, it's a area dependent, some are in conguseted areas, many of us aren't.

Congestion usually results in packet loss. Try disabling your antivirus and re testing. Also is speedtest.net smooth when running a test. I've seen java bug and show slow speeds and also try another browser too

as said you may just be unlucky. the mother in law is on 30meg service and it's worse than her old 2 meg bt connection. huge packet loss, websites time out etc. eventually spoke to someone on the tech side after about 3 months and he basically admitted it's oversubscribed and planned updates are scheduled for "summer 2012 if we're lucky"
however, the tv service has been very good...go figure
