I want to install and play with Ex 2010, I am on VM 50mb package and I understand I don't have a static IP.

I have never used anything like no ip or dyndns, is it possible to have the MX of my domain pointing at my dynamic ip somehow using one of these services?

When I had my NTL (as it was at the time) connection the IP was sticky rather than dynamic. As long as the modem stayed on the IP didn’t change for months at a time. If this is still the case then things should be stable enough to have a decent play with Exchange server without having to do anything clever.

Hosting a mail server is probably against their T&Cs, and they may be blocking the port(s) you need to use.

You will probably need a smart host to relay the mail as Hotmail and others will not accept mail from a dynamic IP.

Also, you will be better off using dynamic dns so the IP is updated as soon as it changes. Virgin Media IP addresses rarely change; however, the IP addresses aren't static, they're just DHCP addresses with long leases.

Nothing in the T&Cs about running a mail server that I could find, and I was running a dev mail server fine.

If you send a load of emails they will call it spam. Do a search on the VM forum.
EDIT=you could get a business line
