VM Backups

Can VMWare data recovery do what vRanger and Veeem do?

I'm not too familiar with those products but it looks like it.

Integrated into virtualcenter for scheduling and retention settings. Backups are done online by a virtual appliance to a network storage target. They are deduplicated (this is a killer feature IMO) and compressed.

You can then recover, again through virtualcenter, at image level or file level. Sounds pretty damn good to me :)

That does sound good, I wonder how quick it is. Do you know if the data recovery features are available in ESXi 4? Would be good to test it out. If not I suppose they still do a 60 day trial license for ESX so I could test it that way.

Has anyone tried VMware data recovery yet?

I'm in the process of moving to vSphere and it's one of the driving factors - looks like it might be the answer to my prayers :)

Only just got to the stage of migrating to vCenter 4.0 so far though...

Will know in a couple of weeks. While most the rest of our VMWare is 3.5 we're commissioning a new setup over the next fortnight based on VSphere and the Data Protection stuff is one thing we are really keen to see.
