VM Cable Internet Setup Help

Hey :)

Just need a little help setting up Virgin cable with a Belkin wireless router,

In front of me I have a Virgin Media 255 Modem with only 1 Ethernet port, what I'm trying to do is link this to a Belkin high speed wireless G router (F5D7633) but am not having much luck.

I’ve disable the DHCP server, Firewall & set the WAN IP to 192.168.101.1 I just cannot get internet access at all :confused:

Any tips of info much appreciated as this is driving me insane.
 
No need to disable DHCP, and you dont need to set the WAN IP either, it should automatically pick up an IP from Virgin.

Try cloning the PC's MAC address into the router, then hard reboot the cable modem. The router should then pick up an IP from Virgin and away you go :)

How does one go about cloning the PC's MAC addy and which one, networking ant my strong point. :D

Here’s a screeny of the Belkin's config page, any settings need changing?



Also the IP addys of the computers when connected to the Belkin router are 192.168.2.2> shouldn’t they be the same range as the Virgins modem :confused:

Was really simple when I tried connecting my Be* Modem & the Belkin, no fuss :(

What I'm doing is linking the Virgin 255 Modem Via the Ethernet cable to the Belkin router, then to hopefully to 4PC's currently can only link to 1.

Didn't realise that's what you were trying to do. I thought you were using a router with a WAN Ethernet port connected to the cable modem.

Forget everything I said :D

Bin the Belkin, and get yourself a Linksys WRT54GL. They are great routers and very easy to setup with VM :)
