My friend has moved places and Virgin is not available at that address. She doesn't need extreme speeds, she mainly uses her internet for netflix and other streaming sites.

What ISP would you people recommend?

She doesn't watch TV, its mainly streaming sites online that she uses.

Plusnet was pretty cheap last time I looked but the 38mb package only has 2mb upload. But seeing as she streams mostly upload speeds won't be that important. Will be fast enough for all that HD (and probably 4K) content.

Bt Infinity was the cheapest by far for me last year, once the £50 Sainsbury's giftcard and cashback via TCB was taken into account. 12 month contract too, whereas many others want 18 months.

Are BT better now? When I had them couple years back it was dog poo, I was lucky to get 100kb/s whilst I was easily getting 10mb/s with VM...

Town centre is where the apartment is located and yet she can't get fibre or cable, I live quite far away from town centre and I can get 200 package from virgin. Logic...

TBH I have found BT's fttc much more reliable and far less packet loss than my VM connection i had before. Also VM's usage policy meant i was slowed down now and then if downloading some hefty games. Personally would not ever go back to VM now yes the Vivid is fast but in reality 70 odd meg is fine for me and i run gaming servers on that too with TS server and the mrs watching on demand while i game and use spotify and it never struggles.

The F in "FTTC" and "FTTP" is Fibre!

There are some funky areas where postcode isn't enough to be 100% sure about what is available, but from your screenshot at least the exchange has FTTC (fibre to the cabinet) and FTTP (fibre to the premises) available. You'll need to know full address/telephone number to find out more.

I already checked with BT and Sky, they both said that Fibre under that address is not available. Sky have told me, it'll be available in 2 months time and BT said there's not ETA...

Could mean shes direct to the exchange. The building my flat is in was built in 2011 and is direct to the exchange, no idea why they didn't bother with fibre or Virgin. Always got told "oh yeh it will be available soon" or "its full at the moment".

She lives in the new modern flats, its only just has been finished up with furniture etc. They should have done fibre from the start, I've checked addressed near her. Some were eligible for hyperoptic! The buildings were lime 20-30+ years old lol...

AVOID Plusnet! Terrible customer service and I'm scared to count how many hours have been spent on the phone to try and get in contact. Thankfully it only took 3 min to get to the department which deals with cancellations.... Lets try Sky now...
