Hi all,

Ok so I logged into my virgin account the other day and it tells me I will need an upgrade to my existing equipment to take advantage of the new speed upgrades coming soon. I filled in an online form and arranged for delivery of my new superhub. This arrived yesturday. Now I phone up today and asked if I was to install it today would I be able to take advantage of the new speeds I was told that wouldnt happen until October.

My question to OC is I was actually told that since the new modem has better technology than the old one I would get slightly faster speeds with the new one anyway. Is this actually true or are virgin just trying to get me over to the superhub quicker for some reason? I am currently very happy with the little black modem I am using atm becuase it works well and I always relucant to mess with stuff when it works but if I was to get a small improvement it might be worth it and then of course I would be ready to go when the speed upgrade comes.

Also, is it easy to setup in modem mode since I will be using my current RT-N56 as my router.
 
6 and 2 3'd tbh. The wireless has been fixed, as have quite a few other bugs. I use mine, though I will admit I have 2 wireless access points (one for n, the other b/g) since I bought them before the wireless issues were sorted. I would install anyway, because this way if it is upgraded early you will get the speeds straight away.

When i logged into the VM website there was a little green bar above all the information I clicked on that and was told I would need a new modem to get the best from the new speed roll out. Its still there when I log in now becuase I assume they dont know I have the modem yet.

Same for me, i've had months of uptime without issues on the superhub since the last firmware update was released and like you i also have a second router for b/g as a few of my devices dont work with wireless-n and/or wpa2. the only issue i have with the superhub is the signal strength, which is still rubbish :p

Yeah thanks pillydee, I was thinking along the same lines as yourself. I might set it all up this week and see what happens. I am not due for an upgrade until october and was hoping to get some more hardware soon and I have just got my SSD drive back from RMA so I will probably take an afternoon off work and reformat and get it all sorted ready for the upgrade.
 
if ur area can handle the speed already u can mabe get ur speed early by calling up if ur not in contract , haggle ur monthly cost + few other benefits including ur early 60mb speed for ur new shiny 1 yr contract
 
If you call up vm they can actually give you the new speed right away. My area said its coming, so I called up to leave and then I reduced my price and upped my package.
Now I'm actually getting 100mb and even sometimes upto 250mb somehow - but I guess I'm the only one in the area getting the new service.
Btw for routers at 250mb you need specialised business router to coupe with that speed.
 
If you're currently on (or going to be on) 30Mb or more you need a Superhub because it supports DOCSIS 3.0, at less than 30Mb I shouldn't imagine a standard modem/hub will be any slower.

Setting the Superhub to Modem only mode is childs play.
