VM vs Sky

I've currently got SkyHD (with Sky Broadband & Phone) and moving to a new home next week. I want to keep SkyHD but want to move to VM broadband & phone, is this possible as I've been told that you don't need only a BT line for SkyHD as this is only a way for them to get people signing up for Sky Broadband etc?

Oh, plus at the new place ADSL only goes up to 2meg and I also don't want to pay BT £125 just to reconnect the phoneline.

As far as I know you need a BT line for sky whether it be HD or not. It gets its planner updates via the phone line and all the stuff on anytime is downloaded to the box. Once sky is installed you can disconnect the box from the phoneline if you want but you cant get sky installed without the BT line there in the first place... hope that helps

Being an XL Virgin V+ customer myself I would go for Sky. The box is just so slow and the customer support is complete horse rubbish! The lack of decent HD channels is also very annoying .

Hmmm, getting a bit confused as I've been told by quite a few people that you don't need an active BT line and that a VM phone will be fine as all the box does is call a number to confirm it is connected. As for Sky Anytime, for me it's a complete waste so I wouldn't miss it.

Also, reading Sky's terms & conditions I found this...

General: Free Sky/Sky+/Sky HD box must be connected to a fixed telephone line for 12 months.

It states fixed telephone line and not BT :)

Get Sky. They both have some downsides but OVERALL Sky wins easily.

You would get annoyed with the slowness of Virgin TV, internet traffic shaping, cost, terrible support, lack of HD Channels.

Sky may be a bit more expensive but you get what you pay for. No?

I had sky and then sky + for years and i only needed a home phone line, mine was from NTL.

If it's a new contract then you have to have the sky box connected to the phone line for 12 months. (if you disconect it from the phone line after instalation eventually you get letters from sky telling you that you have to connect it back to the phone line)
