With more than 90 new features and now optimized for today’s multi-core Macs and OS X Lion, key features in VMware Fusion 4 include:

- Built for OS X Lion – VMware Fusion 4 is designed to provide the best Windows experience on OS X Lion. Add Windows programs to Launchpad, experience them in Mission Control, view them in full screen or switch between them using Mac gestures.

- Better Performance and Faster Graphics – VMware Fusion 4 has been engineered to run Windows and Mac applications side-by-side with incredible speed and reliability. As a 64-bit Cocoa application, it is optimized for today’s multi-core Macs and delivers 3D graphics up to 2.5-times faster than previous versions of Fusion.

- Even More "Mac-like" Experience – VMware Fusion 4 enhances the way Windows programs run on a Mac. From the brand new settings menu to the redesigned virtual machine library and snapshot menu, users have even more Mac-like experiences when running Windows programs.

- Lion Squared – VMware Fusion 4 now supports OS X Lion in a virtual machine, allowing users to get more from their Mac by running OS X Lion, OS X Lion Server, Mac OS X Snow Leopard Server and Mac OS X Leopard Server in virtual machines.

Currently $49.99

Looks nice. Probably will upgrade if only for the extra GFX performance alone.

Without hijacking the thread since it is pretty on topic.

I have only ever used Bootcamp and without a SSD currently fitted in either of my machines it seems a task in itself rebooting.

I have often wondered between Parallels and VMWare, just had a quick browse and VMWare looks great. Could I just ask how running Windows aswell as OSX how much processing power does it need, how much ram usage? Since I only have 4GB in my iMac since I'm lazy to upgrade, 8GB on my MacBook. Do I have to select how much ram I give the virtual machine etc?

Few basic questions Im sure you guru's could kindly answer.. hopefully! Thanks

You can decide for yourself how much CPU power & RAM to be used by each VM. Since I only run one I use default (1 processor core & 1GB). Runs fine, I can watch HD flash videos, even play the odd game like C&C Generals or BF1942). Certainly enough power for everyday use & Office type programs.

I have both VMW 4 and Parallels 7. Parallels 7 is still faster for desktop stuff, but again you get the situation where VMW scales better with more VMS per host.

So I end up using parallels for my desktop OS, and running all my server & dev stuff in Fusion. Also, Fusion images port directly to our ESX estate making my life considerably easier to be fair.

Even if Parallels is slightly faster as their website claims. I wouldn't pay double the price for a slight speed difference unless it was life changing which I can imagine its not!

Parallels user here , using the 7 version of it , even works with the Windows 8 Developers Preview.

I might give VMWare a go as i only have 5 days left of the trial. Not sure if i want to spend £65 on a license.

I've removed it.

I have a Parallels VM I use for my amateur radio software, I converted it and ran it in Fusion but it was a bit slow and herky-jerky at times. In case this was due to the conversion, I built a new VM from scratch and the same thing happened. I can't be having a VM that's slow so I've removed it and won't be buying it. I'll stick with Parallels.

Did you install VMWare Tools in the VM? If not, that's your issue.

Just installed Parallels to try, all seems fine although I'm pushing running windows 7 with 4GB Ram, need to stop being lazy and order another 4GB.

Also how many machines does the Parallells licence cover?
