VMware on Linux (Ubuntu)?

Hi,
I wanted to know if VMware workstation (latest version 6.5) will work 100% (like it does in windows) on a linux machine?
And it runs straight from the OS, I don't need to use wine or whatever, right?
 
I run 6.5 on Arch Linux without issues, don't see why it wont work on Ubuntu.

It will run natively from linux yes, assuming you have got the linux version and not the windows one, i think they license them separately?

6.5 comes with a simple .bundle install file, it should be a simple case of running that to install it, maybe worth double checking on the ubuntu forums though.
 
I've got the latest (6.5) on Gentoo, no problems what so ever. Both workstation, and server, on multiple installs.

It was designed for *nix before they released for Windows.

Licenses are different, Linux license is different from windows so purchase carefully.
 
Also, I'm willing to bet a considerable amount that Ubuntu repo's will have vmware. apt-get install vmware-workstation or something.
 
I don't think VMWare Workstation has ever been in the repos, but VMWare Server has been in the past. I think it's now only available as a direct download from VMWare, though. It's not in the Intrepid Ibex repositories.

I haven't used the full workstation version for a couple of years, as VMWare Server and now VirtualBox do everything I need, for free. Plus I've set up XDMCP with Xephyr...
