VMWare VCP 4 - Tips

(Thread revival, etc omg)

Hi,

I am interested in pursuing a VCP qualification. From what I can tell, I need to attend one of the three main courses:

- Install, configure, manage
- Fast Track Course
- Troubleshooting course

And then take an exam?

Looking at the website, it seems that there are many available courses in my area but none really seem to give a price. How much are these prices and is this the correct path to take for acquiring the certification?

Thanks!

VCP 4 is evil, nothing like the ones before I hear.

It's actually very similar to the 3.5. The exam focuses a lot on the differences in products, resource pools, min/max requriements and a whole lot of other stuff in between.

I didn't find it overly hard - I did the exam whilst having flu and still managed a good passing mark - but then I have been working with ESX for several years.

As long as you read all the course materials and have a good look around the VMWare website it shouldn't be to bad.

Can you confirm my question mac?

I've been using VMWare for a good few years in business environment. Done everything from physical server, installation of ESX/vSphere, maintenance, migration of production systems to VM Platform, etc.

The way I understand it at the moment, is that you have to take one of those 5 days courses which is 5 days long and costs around £2k. Then you do the exam and then you are a VCP?

What books are people referencing?

I've got master VMware vSphere 4 which is fab.

Just looking at this one now too - VCP VMware Certified Professional on VSphere 4 Study Guide: Exam VCP-410

Really ought to get some of these certs myself once I've nailed the Windows Server MCPs/MCSA, considering we too are gradually shifting towards an 80-90% virtual environment for our servers.

This is right, you need to attend the course to become a VCP.
