Vodafone and poor sync speed - Any advise welcome

Have been struggling to get download speed anywhere near what it used to be which was around 50Mbps. A faulty Vodafone router was identified and replaced as I had 1000's of CRC errors per day. The router was replaced over a month ago and since this time my download speed has never gone above 40Mbps. I am on Superfast 2 Plan so should be more.

The current rate recorded on the router seems to be stuck at 3999kbps never changes?

Line Quality
Downstream Upstream
Current Rate 39999 kbps 12772 kbps
Maximum Rate 52407 kbps 12314 kbps
Signal-to-Noise Ratio 9.2 dB 5.2 dB
Attenuation DS1 13.9 dB, DS2 35.2 dB, DS3 53.6 dB US0 4.0 dB, US1 26.5 dB, US2 42.1 dB
Power 12.6 dBm 7.6 dBm
CRC Errors in last 10048 minute(s) 5 2836

I am now plugged into the master socket with the face plate removed and using an ADSL filter. This made no difference. I am 500 Meters from the Cabinet.

I have contacted Vodafone numerous times and cant seem to make any progress with them. They tell me they will contact Openreach and not to unplug my router. But get the distinct feeling that they are just fobbing me off. Any advice please?

Hi, the router was blamed for the CRC errors. Are you saying that Vodafone are capping me at 39999 kbps?
No, DLM is. Vodafone have no control over DLM, the only way to remove the banding is to wait (and it may not get removed) or Vodafone would need to get Openreach to perform a DLM reset.

I had similar issues. CRC errors were huge (though not 7k a day like yours), and FEC's were into the billions over the course of a week. Replacement Vodafone router solved it for a while, but within 3 months the issue returned.

Replaced the awful Vodafone router and the connection has been good since.

I bought another router at the time a Netgear D7000v2 which was unstable and needed frequent restarts. Went back to the replacement Vodafone router as was more stable!
Should I try asking Vodafone to request a DLM reset as this has been over a month now. Surely the DLM would have altered unless a line fault or noisy line does exist.
I have tried the BT Quiet line test which was quiet.

BTOpenreach are coming tomorrow morning to check the line and perform a DLM reset if necessary.
Anything I should ask the engineer?

Get them to hook their tester up and see what sync rate they get so you have a reference point from a quality piece of kit

Why do ISPs always blame the flipping router?
Its almost always line speed or quality.

Vodafone routers are renown for being faulty and talk talk routers cause quite a lot of background noise and start causing HR issues and then start erroring. Not to mention the rest of the provider's.

Out of all the fibre faults I go to I would say 50% are customer equipment related.

It's just a low-pass filter so I don't think there's any difference between one made for VDSL and one made for ADSL

Hi all, thanks for all your responses, patiently waiting for BTOpenreach.
Checked the filter and it has DSL written on it so my bad for saying ADSL.
Tided up the cables yesterday and my SNR Ratio changed from 9.2 to 10.1 db overnight. All other values remain the same.

2 weeks ago when I restarted the router it was 12.8 db for downloads. Do I want a higher or lower figure as researching this i see conflicting information.

You want the lowest SNR that gives you a stable, error free line as that will give you the highest sync speed. The clever gubbins in the cabinet manage this.

As you've had a huge amount of CRC errors, it will be targetting a higher SNR to attempt to reduce those to an acceptable level. Thats why your SNR is high and your sync speed is relatively low. My line sits at around 6dB SNR to achieve ~50Mbit, which is about as high as is possible and in line with the Openreach engineers test equipment.

If you are using ASUS motherboard and game first installed it will throttle your internet speed.

Just a heads up, maybe you are blaming router while the motherboard is slowing you down.

The connection statistics in the OP are copied from the modem routers DSL status page, this is not the problem.

Okay thanks on another note. When I have been using the BT Wholesale Broadband Performance Test

When I select further diagnostics using the landline number I always get the same error message:
