Vodafone and poor sync speed - Any advise welcome

When on Vodafone i had loads of errors and data faults including disconnects every few days. Moved to TalkTalk and not only is the line speed higher i have 0 data errors.

Engineer performed a DLM reset as soon as he arrived. Line was slightly faster but not by much.
He could not find any fault with the line but agreed that the line was relatively slow.
I was lucky as he found a spare line between the Pole and the Cabinet and when he switched it over he could confirm a faster sync speed.

My speed has significantly improved and is now what is expected for my distance from the cabinet.

Glad to see you got the problem sorted out. As @ChrisD. said the line was banded.

Unless you're at the maximum speed of your package then anything ending in 9's usually means DLM is stuck and needs to be reset.

Yeah I know all about banding, mine is stuck at 59995000 bps. I've had two DLM resets and after a while it always goes back. I guess swapping out the modem may help but it's quick enough so I'm just living with it now, rather than go through the rigmarole of arranging another engineer visit for a reset.

I signed up with Vodafone fibre Superfast 2 in June. The expected speed was 59mb.

The sync speed was mid 30s until July when suddenly it jumped to 71mb and I was getting around 69mb on Speedtest.

In September we had a few power cuts in our village and it dropped back to mid 30s again.

Vodafone sent an Openreach engineer who tested my line and said there wasn't a problem and should be getting 70+. He suggested a new router and Vodafone obliged.

Still the same mid 30s sync speed.

Until last week. At about 3am last Friday morning my router rebooted and I checked the sync speed and it was 80mb and I was getting 74mb on Speedtest.

Been stable all week.

Yesterday, we had some new smart meters fitted and the electricity had to be turned off. I switched the router off before the electricity was cut. When the electricity was back on I restarted the router and surprise, surprise it's dropped back to 35mb again.

What is causing this?
