Had a text from Vodafone this morning informing me of changes to my priceplan. They are 'simpifying' roaming by removing the 'preffered network' option and going for a fix price when roaming overseas (ie in a non Passport area).

If you dont use the preffered network your calls will be cheaper but if you do, they will increase. Only a dunderhead wouldnt use the preffered network so fundamentally this is a price increase and calls made when roaming in the USA, where I intend to spend 2-3 weeks in a few months time, will now cost 10p a minute more.

Is there anything this company won't do to annoy its customers? I'm pretty annoyed about this - half the reason I chose Voda again was because of how reasonable they were for roaming when travelled Australia and as trave is something I intend to do more and more, it grates me that they take the mick like this.

What is the point in signing a CONTRACT if they can just change stuff whenever they like?

Grrrr.

This is only off the top off my head but, Within their terms and conditions if your bill increases by more than the RPI beacuase of changes they have made then you can cancel, but if you have never uses the service before then you wont be able to cancel.

If you're unhappy with it, cancel your contract (which you can do legally), and get a skype phone. Bingo - free calls anywhere.

Sounds similar to when I cancelled my Orange contract because of price changes.

Try ringing them and telling them you're not happy with the changes and you'd like to leave.

You should be able to cancel and keep your current phone. Worst case scenario they'll probably offer you a better deal.

When Orange done it I canceled, kept my Omnia HD and got a new contract with them, £100 cashback and a PS3 :p

Is this not part of the fallout of the EU's decision to force networks to drop the price of their roaming charges in some way?

Suppose the networks had to get the lost revenue back somehow.

I'd be surprised if Vodafone hadn't learnt from the farce that Orange faced a few months ago but read the small print you nevr know

In my experience roaming on all networks is over priced.

But do you guys not just buy local sims abroad? I always do that now, unless i'm abroad with work in which case i just don't care about running up bills

did you manage to cancel your contract?

I have a 2 year contract I would like to get out of as there is no signal in the area we now live in.

Roaming services are usually classed as additional, not primary terms, and an increase in them doesn't usually trigger termination clauses.

Best to double check exactly what the contract says regarding your rights to terminate.

When T-Mobile increased their roaming charges a lot of people were contacting them to cancel their contract and they said no.

Lots went to complain to Ofcom who (If I remember correctly) said that if you were essentially a big international user where the charges would substantially change your bill you could cancel. If you're just the type that goes on holiday once or twice a year then the T&C's in their contract let them do it and no termination is allowed.

If you Google Bitter Wallet T-Mobile you'll find the outcome. I don't know of a network now that hasn't not increased its prices. Roaming seems to have got rather expensive now.
