I am looking to switch carriers - been with most in the past and currently found the best deal for what I am looking for with Vodafone.

What are they like for 3G Speeds/Coverage - I know they used to heavily brand phones, do they still do this?

Currently with T-Mobile and they are ok, but nothing special - most of my time was with O2 but found them to be highly priced compared to others!

I use O2 and Voda - voda coverage is OK but not as good as O2 IMO. They have been very reliable so far and well featured packages but in other aspects a bit hit and miss. No major issues with them but not so good I'd blindly reccomend them either.

Vodafone are terrible from a customer service point of view, its utterly utterly dire.

Whatever you do, don't rely on coverage maps for anything from any network, they are way off.

One of the only good things about Vodafone is SureSignal, which could be quite handy for the iPhone 4 if you are in a low signal area and use the phone a lot.

I have nothing but praise for Vodafone CS.
When I was buying my Desire a few months ago I bagged one of the first on the network with a simply phone call to CS.

I had issues with dropped calls at one particular cell, CS investigated, explained an overly busy cell at certain times of the day and a date when an upgrade was going to be done.

From reviews I've read I would say they are at least as good as the other networks, and are probably one of the better networks. Probably best to ask around about coverage where you'll be using the phone most if you can.

Rgds

Couldn't disagree more.

I've been with Vodafone since 1997 and never once in all that time have they ever given me reason to complain.

Its also quite ice that when I do ring up someone answers within about a minute.

However I've been with both O2 & T-Mobile for my business contract over the last few years and have nothing good to say about them, particularly O2 who were abysmal.

Well, every single mobile phone company will have varying customer experiences between different people.

The many times I have dealt with Vodafone, they have been terrible compared to O2/Orange and T-Mobile.

Not saying the above are perfect, but they are definitely better in my experience.

Data speeds wise I would say they are the most consistant - I've seen higher burst speeds on other networks but vodafone have been the most consistant in terms of ping times and sustained throughput when I have managed to find a high speed signal... GPRS is a bit crud rarely see higher than 40kbit/s and often averaging only 20.

i've also never had a problem with vodafone customer service.
usually very helpful. I was trying to get a new phone but still had a year left on my contract, my plan was to pay of the remander of the contract and get the new phone on a new one. But instead they offered to just extend my current one and give me the phone for free, which was more than i was expecting.

althou if you need to use it, i find its best to do it via the forum instead, they are much better than ringing them up.

my 3G signal has been pretty good most of the time.
when i can only get GPRS, it tends to be very slow thou, lucky if i get 4kb/s

My experience with customer service at vodafone has been hit and miss... they bent over backwards to get my new phone out to me on next day special delivery during a busy christmas period, they eventually managed to find a decent "upgrade" deal for me with a bit of prompting so kinda 50/50 on that one, the web team has been good in the past at getting issues resolved but they seem to have been reigned in a bit :( when I had their promotions (3rd party call center) go mad and call me every few hours for a week cs was very quick at getting it dealt with and refunded me a good sized chunk of my contract for that month. With other matters tho they have been a bit slow/obtuse.

Never again for my area. o2 and orange are where its at for me, dont trust the maps, get a pay n go sim and trial it out before signing up to a contract

Iv only been with Voda since Jan. I've not had any problems with them. Signal is very good.
The only two networks you work in oldham is Voda and 02....

Customer Service has been very good. Everytime i ring CS never encounted any problems. So far so good. :)

Been with voda for a year now, Good signal where o2 were poor and cs have been fine. Was with o2 before for 4 years, For 3 of those years they were fine the final year I had nothing but problems.

So yeah Id recommend vodafone :)

O2 coverage in the south west is poor, especially with 3G.

Orange is best down here.

Been with VF for years on PAYG, no complaints. Changed to contract to get the Nexus One...

NOTHING but problems, MMS has not worked for 4 months and counting, numerous issues with my account etc.

The Sure Signal is the only good thing that would make me stay come the end of my contract to be honest.

I see you're in Southend which is where I am. I'd check 3G coverage first if I was you. I'm in the Southchurch area and my Voda 3G signal is almost non-existent. Fortunately its my work phone so use my personal Desire on Three most of the time which has excellent signal at home.

I've only been with Vodafone since January. Network/3G coverage is good. Hasn't let me down so far.
Knowing my luck, network will epicly fail on me sometime soon... :(

CS is good. I've only rang CS twice so far and havn't had any problems so far.
