Whilst tethered today, I noticed something peculiar and then decided to do a test.

Have Vodafone upgraded their network recently?

Never seen those kinda speeds on vodafone - the odd burst to 1.6-4mbit but mostly around 500-600kbit sustained each way - tho latency is about the same.

Vodafone is a load of excrement for me in Windermere lately, about 20kbps over Edge.

I'll write out the results of the test for you.

All done between 17:10 and 17:20 roughly on May 21st 2011.

Code:

Test 1: Download: 5063Kbps, upload: 1269Kbps and ping 229ms.
Test 2: Download: 4190Kbps, upload: 1279Kbps and ping 129ms.
Test 3: Download: 5004Kbps, upload: 1275Kbps and ping 120ms.
Test 4: Download: 5164Kbps, upload: 1232Kbps and ping 140ms.

I'm not sure how we're meant to know if Vodafone have upgraded their network without a comparative result from another, earlier date.

All around 2Mbps in the past when I've done it. Have Vodafone started testing the 900mhz band for 3G yet?

Not sure but I have heard something about someone testing, or thinking of, the 900Mhz band. Just found the link below whilst writing this post.
