Hi all,

I'm a gin drinker and not really a big vodka drinker at all so please excuse my ignorance. I'm looking to purchase one of my good friends a decent bottle of vodka for a Christmas get together but I'm struggling to find one that he'll appreciate.

At current, he's a big Grey Goose fan which is pretty smooth from my experience (or lack thereof :p) and is a bit of a collector too - he's got one of the 6l bottles and some of the various flavored variants.

With that in mind, what would be a good bottle to get him (other than another bottle of GG :D) please? My budget is up to about £75.

I've seen the GG Cherry Noir online but finding a bottle here is difficult to say the least.

Thanks.

I like a bit of Bel, I have various flavours etc. They're nice

Crystal head is cool, tastes nice, in the shape of a skull.

Snow Queen is nice too.

I also have a couple of different Finnish vodkas too a friend bought me

Black Cow Vodka. I really want to try this, essentially it's made from Milk. Well the Whey from milk. About £32 a bottle

Thanks all - I've seen the Crystal Head stuff in my local off license but wasn't sure if it was a gimmick or actually worth trying! Will probably opt for a bottle of that.

Never tried Crystal Head but have tried a variety of Vodkas from all over if you want something a bit special and not typically available on the shelf in the UK try something like a bottle of Reyka.

Get him some Smirnoff gold, because it is a really, really, manly drink. Crystal head is nice, everything tastes better when it comes from an unsavory vessel.

Hit a slight bump on this one, looking at his facebook pics, he's already got the Crystal Head and has already had Smirnoff Gold :p I'm starting to think he's an alcoholic.

The Black Cow vodka looks like it might be a refreshing change and something different so may try that.

Or chase? But I'm sure if he likes vodka he'd have Chase...

:yeahthat:

My favourite is definitely Chase or Grey Goose. I've also got the Crystal Skull vodka but not opened it yet.

Belvedere is good too but sure he's tried that if he's a fan of grey goose (very similar iirc)

Edit: Now intrigued by snow queen vodka mind!

I have the crystal skull shot glasses as well hahaha

I don't even drink vodka much, but I cannot not collect something when I start... I have about 10 bottles, I think but I do need some more flavoured bel as guests nailed a boatload of it last time.

Another shout is Zubrowka it's a polish bison grass vodka and probably one of the smoothest if not the smoothest I have ever drunk.

I've seen that mentioned quite a bit during my research - does the flavour differ between say this and GG/Bel?

Yes the flavor is different! It's the smoothest I have ever drunk, mixes very well with pressed apple juice as well. I've been to Russia for a 4 day bender and worked in a vodka bar for a year... so have a few vodka opinions!

Past that the only things to look at are small batch vodkas such as the aforementioned Reyka or the copper pot distills like smirnoff black etc

Grey Goose is the world's finest... straight out of the freezer neat with a touch of ice

Grey Goose is definiely not the worlds finest. It is made in France for one.

I am also not a fan of Chase at all. It came bottom in a blind tasting myself and 8 others did last year. It came below Smirnoff (which is now made in Italy) and it is made from potatoes, so is not actually proper vodka.
