VOIP internal Office setup?

thinking of getting a VOIP phone setup in the office so that communication between staff can be easier and cheaper. question is, iv seen this setup before but on a large scale 1000 phone systems, whats the best way to implement this system, i believe the phones can use the existing cat5 cableing by looping the cable back into a pc to provide network and phone services.

where do i start?

will need around 20 phones.

depends how much you want to spend.

We deployed a cisco call manager express with 20 phones to a remote site. Cables plug switch>phone>pc.

Cisco Call Manager (If you've got the budget)

Asterisk/Trixbox (If you don't)

We use Asterisk in our office as there's only 5 of us so there isn't a huge need for a massively powerful/scalable system (although Asterisk does scale, it just requires work to do so rather than adding more boxes/licences etc)

Microsoft office Communicator works well might not be typical VOIP give it a shot

Have a look at 3CX free edition if you are running on Windows - nice and easy to set up.
