volt modding my board, can i use a pencil ?

erm, go buy one? you can pick them up for pennies. its sound advice. if your volt moidding anything, you should always have a meter to hand really.

i always thought they were fairly expensive gismo`s  plus i wouldnt know how to use it but then i guess its not rocket science.

not really, not unless you want to go into lab-grade meters then it gets expensive. you can pick up an more than adiquate multimeter for £10-15, and thats new.

I dont think volt modding is for you if you are unsure how to use a volt meter.

a 10 quid one may cause you more grief as we are dealing with 0.1 vdc alterations and the impedance of the meter comes into the equation

You don't need to buy a Fluke DMM, but if your modding for low voltage sensitive components like CPU's or RAM, three digits after the decimal point is a must. Called 3.5 digits, where the last digit is 1 or 0, £30/40 ish, with an accuracy of 0.05%. If its just PSU voltages a normal £8 job will do, I've seen cheapo's out by as much as 0.1v on the volt range.

I did this mod on my old Asrock dual 939.....

Blob of solder.....lol didn't realise how unsteady my hand was until I tried doing it!!!

worked a treat though

Well, If you have a Voltmeter its really no big deal, you simply take a pencil and rub graphite onto the resistor to lower its resistance, which increases the voltage through that circuit. Then just use the DMM (Digital Multi-Meter aka Voltmeter) to measure the voltage.
