Volta max 25% increase?

Now with consoles being 4K wil the majority of games be better for P.C’s in general, dunno if that’s how devs will develop stuff now? I just feel we don’t get to see games flourish on our systems due to the games being catered to the mass console market?

Is that how it works?
No, it's not how it works.

Consoles don't hold PCs back at all.

Both games suffer draw distance / pop in whether it be from objects or even just shadow. Why then do we not see objects and shadow renedered much further into the distance on ultra settings?

Also, yes of course a 1080 Ti is significantly ahead of the average graphics card. The average graphics card will be a low to low mid card.

My original comment wasn't about how far ahead the 1080Ti is but more the lack of graphical detail on Ultra settings within modern games making the need for Volta minimal, at least where gaming is concerned.

The 980ti is still a very capable card. Runs everything at max settings still, even better with gysync monitors hence why I’m skipping the 1080 generation. Having the latest graphic card isn’t such a massive need anymore as the games are not pushing he hardware as much.

Yup, can't see me needing a card for a long time. I know Gsync can be an expensive up-front cost, but it does help overall with graphics card costs as it stretches out the lifetime of a card :)

Sorted a m8 of mine an Acer 1440p Gsync screen and it's doing fine with his 3yr-old 970 still!!! Destiny 2 beta for instance ran fine on it.

Is mining the only reason why GPU's are currently overpriced? Or is there something else too it, like memory chip shortage/prices, mobile devices stealing available stock for silicon etc....?

The mining thing seems to have calmed down a bit in the media.

Mining must have an effect. We've not seen a Gibbo special clearance and that's way over due. No massive refurb sales or anything.

980Ti was a great card, my Gigabyte G1 Gaming is on the shelf behind me. I keep telling myself that I can use it in a backup PC but should really stick it on the bay. Have a 290 and 7950 keeping it company. The reason I swapped it out for a 1080Ti FTW3 was the odd stutter at 1440p/60Hz as it was starting to struggle at ultra, and while overclocked was getting a little warm 72-74C. I would have stuck with the 980Ti if my main panel was 1080p.

After playing some Shadow of War and The Evil Within 2 at 1440p/60Hz on a 1080Ti with everything maxed I realise that there is very little reason to look forward to Volta. Graphics are being held back so much now, not just with consoles, but also by low end PCs. Both games have 1060 class cards as recommended. Both games (IMO) could benefit greatly by having Ultra modes that do make use of Ultra cards but that is not going to happen since so few own such cards.

I feel for the first time that the 1080Ti is so far above the average PC/console that it's going to last well beyond the next gen.

This is the problem it has been like it for a few years now. No developer can afford to make a game that will need a 1080ti they just go for the console market and then put a few sticky plasters on the PC release oh and a 4k texture pack (Fallout 4 anyone).

The 980Ti still is Wrinkly.
