Hello

What would you say the safe overclocking voltages are for the below. They are both under a custom watercooling loop and my temps are not a issue, just want to make sure I am not pushing voltages to high.

R9 290 Sapphire reference card
i5 4670K

Thanks

Not sure on your i5 but I wouldn't over volt a reference R9 290, they struggle to stay cool as it is. I have one in the post to me now :)

Hi as above they are both under a custom water loop my card rarely hits 60°c under heavy load

As long as you keep vrm and core temps in check up to +200mv on the core and +100mv on aux voltage is fine under water cooling.

Does the aux voltage help memory overclocking

Also any voltage above stock and my card gets a horrible buzz & coil whine

Any info regarding my coil whine under load. It gets really loud with a +200mv increase.

I have read places that recommends leaving under load for hours to cure the whine/buzz

Just been installing some old games and under stock clocks and voltages running dx9 not dx10 my card will coil whine and I get black lines across the screen. These lines also flash to the pattern of the whine tone if you know what I mean.

Not sure if the cards faulty?

Yes other games but no we're near as bad.

I have wiped to OS with different versions
Tried different drivers
The card also black screens ( you can still hear the audio though)

All of this is also at stock

My RAM is Elpidia looking at GpuZ

I also only get 8000ish on firestrike which looking at other results is way below what others are getting?

Using a i5 4670K and a Asus Maximus VI Formula 8GB Ram

Cheers LtMatt

Do you think I have one of the cards with the bad batch of Elpidia modules?
I got my card within a couple of weeks from its release from OCUK, Nothing but trouble since but its hard to have to submit a RMA and wait up to 28 days for a replacement and no gaming.

On the other hand I am please OCUK is now doing the testing for free and you only pay the return shipping costs if the reject the RMA

Great Move OCUK:)

Well just had a quick look

BAD NEWS:(

They don't have any Sapphire reference 290s in at all not even listed for sale they are all the after market coolers.
So I guess it would be the 28Days back to sapphire.

Looking around the web there seems to be few company's selling the reference sapphire 290's now as they are discontinued. I wonder if sapphire would have to have kept some back for RMA purposes

Doubt it. You'll probably end up getting a full refund from ocuk unless Sapphire can repair your card or send you a refurb. I was in a similar situation with MSI when i sent my ref 7970 back to ocuk for rma. Waited 28 days and ocuk heard nothing back from MSI so they gave me a full refund.

Well I didn't pay £330 to end up with a refurbished card within 6 month so I wont be happy with that option.
Hopefully they have some new one sat around and the whole process doesn't take to long.

From now on I think I will have to look further into the RMA policy for manufacturers as 28days is a bit to long to wait

Good luck. Lets hope the bios update works.

EDIT

After some looking around i found an even newer (but only just - almost identical to mine) bios revision. So if mine does not work, you can always try this one. MSI 290 reference bios. Stock clocks 947/1250.

Cheers I will have a look at it

Just a update for you all

The card has been RMA'd and approved

Just my luck to get a faulty card now I have to wait 28 days for another card or for mine to be repaired:mad:
