Vorpx - worth a punt?

So I'm looking at buying vorpx and playing some of the classics on my rift. Problem is, it's 40 quid which is a bit steep if I end up puking my guts out trying to play skyrim at 15fps.

Anybody using it? Any issues I should be aware of? I'm running a core i5 6600 clocked to 4.5ghz, 16gig and a gtx 1080. Is this going to run smooth or am I barking up the wrong tree?
 
Well, I bought Vorpx straight away when I got my Rift. To be completely honest, it has been a waste of money. It doesn't work properly at all. Skyrim works best and looks best but, even that's a mess. Things just don't look right.

Your system is fine for Vorpx. I ran it on a 290 and an I5 2500k. I got the 1070 GTX a week ago and rebuilt the computer, didn't even bother installed Vorpx again.

No bother :) The VR headsets are best used for actual VR stuff. And there is more and more apps/games been released all the time.

Throw the £5 to cancer research or something. :cool:
 
I also tried Vorpx with Skyrim on the Vive and compared to a native game it's obviously forced and quite a strain really to enjoy it for per longed periods. Haven't used it since sadly.

If you want to play a game not intended to be native VR but works brilliantly then try Minecraft via the Java based mods. Quite a phaff to get it working but well worth the effort.

Yeah, I'd probably be all over that if it wasn't for the fact that I find minecraft to be one of the lamest pieces of crap I've ever seen. I realise I'm in a minority of one but I just can't get my head around it. Pong had better graphics.
 
I just could not play any game with it at all.
It looked weird and I had crazy headaches i'd not get with proper VR games.
 
i totally agree with you melmac, i bought it myself and was under the illusion it would be a little worse than a native VR game, i find it pointless myself, there is a huge difference between playing a game made for VR than playing one through VORPX, even with the recommended settings it feels clunky, often too zoomed in and a little disorientating !

Yeah I don't understand the fanatical following but it is a good example of a non-native game that works well in VR. I wouldn't normally play it for very long but I was struggling to find stuff to do on the Vive (at the time). It's quite a transformation suddenly being inside the game rather looking at a 3rd person projection.

I'm afraid the 8 bit graphics suit the headsets very well at their current tech. spec.

Buying Vorpx has been my biggest regret so far with the Rift. I regret it even more than the USB 3.0 card that I purchased, to find it incompatible, then broke it taking it out and couldn't return it!! Vorpx sucks :p
 
I also bought Vorpx. I don't think its a waster of money and the software is well written - I liked the fact that the 3d effect etc is customisable. Its works best as a 3d monitor - I played need for speed rivals and the 3d effect was very good and the game played like it was on an 100" projector screen.
