Vostro 1500 HDD Upgrade

Yep, that should work fine. Obviously with it being a 7,200RPM noise, heat and power usage will be a bit higher, but it's not usually something you need to be concerned about. Should bring a nice performance boost in any case.

Hadn't realised notebook HDDs were so cheap now either, that's very good value.

Ive also been lookin at a new HDD for my lappie.

I looked at these drives as well, but after reading up a bit apparently the 5400rpm seagates are just as fast!

Thanks a lot guys :D

I was just worried SATA2 would not be compatible, I have very little knowledge of hard drives.

Edit:
I won't worry too much about power consumption and noise as it's plugged in most of the time, and I've got 100W speakers either side of it! :D

As far as i know sata2 is backwards compatible... so if your chipset cant handle sata2 the drive will drop down to sata1 speeds.
