Whether you are a student, graduate, or academic. I encourage you all to sign the petition for no confidence in the policies of the Minister for Universities and Science, David Willets. See the link for more details.

Why don't you post the actual policies and issues and let people decide for themselves whether they want to sign the petition?

The old system was just as unsustainable.

It was just yet another New Labour screw up where literally everyone with half a brain-cell coming out of Sixth Form / College were just being pushed down the path of going to uni. almost as though it was the natural "next step". The country ended up with a load of degree-educated people that were still unemployable because either there were too many of them or because they studied a useless subject. And who was paying for it? Yup, the tax payer...

All they've done in relaxed the restrictions to allow universities more freedom to set their own pricing. Once things settle down the standard free market forces will take over. Prestigious uni's will use the highest prices, where lesser uni's will use lower prices. It also automatically kills off the whole "I think I'll goto uni. but don't really know why. At least I won't have to start work for another 3-4 years." mindset. You will need to be damn sure now that you WANT to go to uni. There will be an increase in the number of "mature students". People who're in their 20s or even 30s that decide to pack in work for a bit and go study again.

I am about to go into full time study (after completing my mandatory 6 month notice period) after years of part-time and frankly I don't think that I agree with a vote of no confidence in David Willits or the Government he represents.

It might be helpful if the OP gave some kind of opinion on the matter in an attempt to portray why we should.

Well I signed :) I think the tuition fees increase will be a disaster for higher education in this country, government finances, and for students.
