I work from home a lot and my company vpn server is located in the German office. The issue I have is that once connected to the vpn I am then using a German IP address on the Internet. This causes issues such as when i type yahoo.com it automatically sends me to the .de German site.

Is there anything I can do to prevent this in a browser such as Firefox?

No basically. It's based on IP geolocation mostly and can't be browser overrided (at least not universally you might be able to for specific sites). Quite why their not using split tunnelling to avoid both this and paying twice for the traffic is open to question though...

either disconnect from the VPN when that causes a problem, or find the VPN options and disable the option for using the VPN connection as the default gateway, this might be disabled depending on how your IT department have set things up because it's a security risk.

Well Yahoo was just an example. It affects bbc.co.uk and many other sites. I have a UK vpn service I use when working abroad so I can use iplayer etc once work has finished.

We use Aventail vpn client, would i need to click "prefer local network resource" to remedy this?
