Hi all, I'm looking for a VPN setup so i can access stuff like facebook in china on my android device.

Has anyone got any experience regarding this? I'm a vpn n00b :(

Any recommendations (apart from don't go!) world be appreciated :)

If you are really that bothered, cant you set-up a VPN server on a spare machine whilst you are away? or just use a generic proxy site.

Does your home router have any VPN functionality?

If so; just set up a dynamic DNS service and away you go.

+1 for home router option.

I've just checked the play store and they have an app called orbot which is basically TOR on android. Wonder if that would help?

Or leave a PC on in the UK, and TeamViewer on to it?

And suffer the latency of pulling down an entire desktop image?

It would be wise though to pass through ports for maybe PPTP to host your own VPN this way, would be more pricey that using your router or NAS though. (Electricity cost)

I have a VPN feature on my fritzbox which is easy enough to use and I just signed upto PIA recently too for netflix and stuff, Impressed with their service

Teamviewer doesn't pull the desktop image or styling, but I suppose it'll still be laggy all the way in China. A quicker method would be RDP as it'll directly connect instead of via TV servers, but still be slow.

Enjoy China, get off the internet :)

Hi guys, forgot all about this. Sorry!

I've got a netgear DGN2200 router and a Netgear readynas Duo v2

Are either of those any good?

Personally wouldn't mess around with your own VPN. Using Private Internet Access will let you use much closer servers to china, so you'll get much better performance, it's £4 for the month.
