VPN options

I've been using Surfshark VPN for about 6 years now, they offer a load more than just VPN but have a VPN option only too.

OP surely has priorities.
I just got £78 Topcashback on my 2+ year renewal of their top tier offer. Worked out I paid about £25 for the service. Crazy.

As a UK citizen, I think it's finally time to get myself a VPN. Yes - I probably should have done this sooner.

Subtle mate, real subtle :D

platforms must prevent young people from encountering pornography from 25 July.

This will see some services, notably porn sites, start checking the age of UK users.

I tried the free Proton VPN on my phone to log into Bluesky, for the seconds it takes it works well and I get back DMs.

I've not actually noticed anything blocked without it but I follow a lot of creative folks whos work can border on what i imagine will be swept up under "adult" content (think Viz humour more than wiggly bits)

Screw this validation nonsense.

I think I've narrowed it down to Nord, Proton, and ExpressVPN based on their no-log policies and their privacy-friendly jurisdictions/living outside the 5/9/14 eyes networks.

Can anyone share experiences, positive or otherwise, with one or more of these three, please?

Am I missing any other contenders based on the above criteria?

TIA for any advice!
Is it because the new rules on viewing porn. you know it s true.

The great thing about Mullvad is that you do not need to give them your email or any personally identifiable information and can pay using a number of privacy focused options as well as the normal stuff.

apparently people are getting around the new age verification with stock photos of driving licenses etc from google images or getting AI to fabricate them :D

some people said it helps if you edit the photos so it looks like a hands holding the driving license.

remarkable if true...

Its one of those where the websites want to make it as easy as possible to. Let people through but still follow the rules.

Maybe time to invest in any VPN stocks! :D
Just checked... Can't find any VPN publicly traded shares. Damn.

I've also been using proton for ages. Comes with their encrypted email service and storage.

If you buy when sales are on (e.g. black Friday) you can often find VPNs dirt cheap. The UK government has really made it mandatory now if you want to protect yourself online. The act does the opposite of what they want.

Yep, unless it can map the image in 3d it will likely work. But I've seen people fool the more advanced ones by wrapping an image around a polystyrene head. Also using 3D printed and painted heads seems to work lol. Going to be a lot of politicians looking at porn :D

I've got around it on some sites though just by changing my account location from UK to somewhere else. So no other location checks being done. There lies the flaw, you'd have to check the whole world to make sure people are compliant within the UK.

it's not like theres a database of driving licenses and faces they can check against.

It's just an AI trying to guess someones age surely.

They should do it so you just have to show a hand :D you can tell by wrinkles how often they visit and determine if they are likely over age or not from how deep the death grip lines go.

Yup they won't care mate, if they've done bare minimum they are good, those certain sites also think the whole thing is ridiculous.
