VR crashing my system?

Just got back into PC gaming after a decade out. Running this rig:

AMD Ryzen 7600x
Gigabyte B650M GAMING X AX
Nvidia RTX 5080 FE
Corsair RM750e PSU
Corsair Vengeance 32GB DDR5 (CL30)
2TB Crucial T500 M.2-2280 NVMe
Windows 11 Pro

I’m using a Quest 3 and Virtual Desktop to get VR working.

The game I’ve been having issues with is F123.

I can get into VR mode fine and I can start a race etc, but after a few minutes the game will either completely freeze the video and audio, meaning I have to close it and reopen it, or worse, my PC will just do a full on reboot itself

Even happens if I try the absolute lowest graphical settings.

I did wonder if perhaps my PSU is slightly underpowered as I know Nvidia recommends an 850watt supply for the 580?

Other than that, is there a way to debug what is going on?

I did originally have an overclock setup for the GPU using Afterburner but I’ve tried without any overclock and it still gives me issues.

I can run the game just fine outside of VR mode with no crashes, so feels like something is up with the VR setup I have.

I did try a demo of Automobilista 2 and that had issues originally but lowering the graphics settings seemed to help.

The only other VR game I’ve tried is Half Life Alyx and I’ve not noticed any issues with that.

maybe try a gpu stress test to get it running max load, its been ages since i did 1, think 1 of them might be called timespy. lostcorpse's advice about looking at event viewer might show something.

Try power limiting your 5080 which massively decreases the wattage required, but doesn't affect performance much.

I'm using a 4090 on a 750w PSU, and I've power limited it reducing the wattage requirements by about 100w.

When I had some transient power spike issues with a 3090 and a 750W PSU the whole machine would shut down rather than freeze. This looks more like a driver issue.

Thanks for all of the suggestions, will give them a go.

I have done quite a lot of GPU stress tests and haven't had any fail apart from when I was pushing the overclock a little too far.

I did try and have a look in the Windows Event logger but there's so much in there I'm honestly not sure what I'm looking for. I assume the big red "Error" ones? :D I can see loads of general Information ones.

Use Stock settings and try lowering the power limit of your GPU. It sounds to me like a power issue.

Half Life Alyx isn't a good test of stability . It dynamically adjusts performance based on what's happening with your GPU.
