Hello,

I was wondering what you guys would rate a good entry level flight sim for kids?

I saw MS flight sim but that's probably a bit too advanced for my son (6) at this moment in time maybe, unless there's like a free flight mode?

DCS World has also been mentioned but again looks pretty advanced with tutorials?.

Star Wars Squadrons?

Elite Dangerous?

His Thrustmaster HOTAS One joystick arrived today. :)

Thanks in advance.

I'd imagine all of the above are a bit complex for a 6 year old. Motion sickness would also be a concern with a kid playing this type of game.

Something like Utrawings might be easier to play? Although I've not tried it myself.

I actually think msfs might be ok, there's loads of options for difficulty and flight assists, turn them all down or on and it'd be easy as just operating the joystick and throttle. a 6 yr old might need a bit of help navigating the menus to get into a flight but once shown i think would be ok or it could be done for them each flight. i wish i'd have had access to something like msfs when i was 6!

I can't comprehend 90% of DCS World at 23 after about 15 hours in the sim and some real world flying experience, let alone 6 years old. :p

Their PDF on flying the F16C alone is 468 pages long.
Me neither really, i got hang of the basics of like taking off, flying around, and landing. But tried to get my head around using the weapons systems of the old russian jet plane they give you, hmm nope.

Aircar is free on Steam and straight forward.
StarWars Squadrons is nice when you have it up and running, the UI is a real pain to use and you need a strong PC to drive it so be warned.

Another vote for Ultrawings on Oculus (either version 1 or 2 would be good) - there are various options to reduce motion sickness if that becomes an issue. If flying about becomes boring, there are simple challenges like flying through hoops, timed courses, taking photos of a particular area, shooting at balloons - the difficulty starts quite easy and slowly ramps up to... beyond me! Graphics are simple, but fun!

I gave up even earlier than that - having to individually configure every button/axis on the joystick before even taking off the first time was tedious - I'm sure the realism offered is extraordinary, but they could learn a lot from MSFS to help the casual gamer.

To be totally honest I'm totally blown away by MSFS ATM. My son was the one originally who wanted to play it, but when I can get to the computer the flight training in VR and hotas is probably the most enjoyable and realistic VR experience I've had since owning my VR setup. It's great!

Yes, the control configuration is by far the worst bit :P

I shed a tear when I jumped into a different aircraft and realised I had to map EVERYTHING again.
