Really? How old are you? I got my first games console at 13 and my Amiga at around 15 or so.
I know the world has changed but 8 should be Lego, board games, riding your bike, football, swimming and smashing radio control cars around.
Boy does do all those things,
Mondays he gets home at 5 from after school club and spends an hour on the Xbox
Tuesday home from school at 5 then goes cub
Wednesday home from school at 5 spends an hour doing what he wants, Xbox, YouTube etc then after dinner we'll do something board games etc
Thursday home from school at 5 football training
Friday normal school time swimming
Saturday football training, playing/ family day, usually includes an hour of Xbox while waits for us to get up.
Sunday football match, usually try and do something as family pretty much same as Saturday
Mrs doesn't like him spending too much time in front of the telly, so we try and do as much as we can.. recently now the weather's changed I'm out in the garden with him or taking him over the field.
Weekends he tends to get more time to do things but we try and limit it to an extent, as you can see he doesn't really get much free time in the week with being at school for so long.
He doesn't have a TV in his room, the only person he can play online with is his uncle, and even then we still make sure we can here was being said.
Part of the reason for the gaming pc is he likes doing stop motion videos with his Lego, usually ww2 re-enactments or football penalties. He's pretty alright at it, but he also likes playing war games, he's heavily into ww1 and ww2, he likes playing war thunder (chat is off), he just finds it fascinating he loves history. He also wants to do Minecraft coding which can't really do on Xbox. Gaming pc was probably a bit of an over statement, it will be a light one with something like a 9060 or something.
There is my pc in the house, but I need that for work and if he screws it up I'm knackered so would rather he have his own, again we'd make sure it's well monitored.
We do genuinely encourage him to be active.
Edit: no idea why I felt I needed to justify my parenting credentials
