before bf3 came out it was rarely mentioned ,but now it seems everyone is saying dont get less than 2gb or get 3gb to be safe  is there any benchmarks or articles that show this to be fact as it stands it renders most nvidia cards useless.some have said bf3 uses more than 2 or 3 this becomes very confusing for people buying a new card so some info on this subject would be very useful, details of resolutions it effects and settings in game that would effect etc

All someone will do is read back a few pages to find you a link........may i suggest browsing yourself? ;)
But seriously, this is a once a week subject now and general consensus is 2gb is safe for 1080p,whilst 3gb is preferable for 1400p

Running out of VRAM will lower frame rates in most situations versus the same GPU core with more memory. It isn't the end of the world though and not nearly as disastrous as some harp on about on GPU forums. Also there is a difference between running flat out of VRAM vs. having lots of textures etc cached that goes over the physical VRAM size. Not every object will be needed at any given moment.

Oh yeah, my 2p would be go for 2GB at least these days :)

so most nvidias are out ?? why bring out a card like 560ti 448 with such low vram just seems daft or am i missing something :(

Well I game at 1080P (1920x1080) and play battlefield on full Ultra without AA smooth as butter. I add AA and fine for a couple of mins but as soon as the 1GB has passed, the game turns into a slideshow.

No idea what vram is being used at that time but it is obvious that it is using more than I have and so the slideshow effect.

BF3 is the only game I personally have seen go over the 1GB VRAM, so not a waste but not good either. Remember, these cards were fine before BF3 came out.

Also I am happy playing BF3 with lower settings, just so I can see the enemy easier.

this is what concerns me,how many future games will run off this engine:confused:im currently sitting here running on the hd3000 while i decide which way to go,i was tempted by the bargain 480, 560ti 448 and the 570 or even 580 if prices come down but then started thinking about vram so started looking at the 7870/7950 its just driving me nuts lol
