My car (x reg Accord 2.0 se executive) seems to be burning around 1/2 litre per 1000 miles, which seems like a lot. I tend to use the revs and often go into vtec. Is this above normal?

How much do you vtec'ers on here use? Does oil used increase the more you go into the vtec rev range?

They do burn oil - they're actually supposed to burn oil.

As for how much - well that varies from car to car.

Nothing to worry about.

Both my ITR and VTI used plenty oil, they where both basically in the VTEC zone whenever traffic/conditions would allow :)
Like merlin says, nothing to worry about.

I've not had to top up the oil in my car (exactly the same as yours) at all in ~15k miles. I probably didn't use VTEC all that much in those miles though.

I've started thrashing it a bit more recently so I'll have to keep an eye on it :o

thats not performace VTEC, so you can't really compare with other VTEC owners.

I wouldn't think VTEC-E engines burned *that* much oil

On my integra I think it almost lasted the whole 9000 mile service. just a small top up was needed.

It depends really I think. On my VTi, when I first had it (about 65k on the clock), it would happily go between services (6k) without any topping up at all, however as the mileage increased (It's now on 135k) it's certainly using oil between services, not enough to be a major concern, but it's there. As said, it's nothing to worry about, it's just the way they are.
