Hi all,

I'd like to ask the owners of cars with the 2.0T FSI engine from the VW group (A3, Skoda Octavia, SEAT, VW) what kind of MPG they're getting.

I currently own a VW Golf 5 GTI with a DSG gearbox. Around town I drive like a saint and stick to 30mph and, as a result, my MPG hangs around 29-30MPG. But on the motorway, it never gets any better despite driving it decently.

I won't lie and say I stick to a rigid 70mph but I don't drive like a bat out of hell.

Just wondering if I should be happy with these figures, because the manufacturer's specs indicate it should be better. I've taken the car to VW and they made an adjustment to the ECU which resulted in better urban MPG but not extra-urban MPG.

Thanks in advance :)

At the moment we have a 2.0TFSI Quattro A3 and that gives us about 24-25mpg around town. Audi for some reason though gave it a very short top gear even though there are 6 of them so on the motorway at about 90 it does 28-30mpg. Its not very good on fuel although its a fantastic and responsive engine.

Cheers, thanks mate. Your car is 4WD through so I think you could expect it to be a bit worse than mine.

Your extra-urban MPG is the same as mine so maybe I shouldn't be complaining. The VW website says my car should be getting abut 45mpg on the open road but I know that those figures are always exaggerated. I'd be happy with about 36-38mpg.

A few days after I got my car, one of the coilpacks went faulty and ever since then I've never been happy with the fuel consumption. It was definitely better before that fault occurred.

Yeah my car is heavy, it weighs 1570kg which is an awful lot for a smallish car plus as you said it has 4wd losses. It goes on thursday anyway the build quality and Audi service have really been a let down with it. It is a fantastic drive though.

I have the Mk5 GTi, also with DSG. Used for a mixture of driving & I have averaged about 29/30 MPG over the 11000 miles or odd since I have had it.

Hi guys

Got a MK5 GTI 2.0T-FSI

Over the whole 27.5k I have done I have averaged 31 mpg. That is with one track day and mostly motorway miles.

I have seen 38 mpg on a long trip driving at 60 mph constantly, but when really flying I rarely see more than 27 mpg.

Hope that helps.

I've got a Mk5 Golf GTi DSG and the most I've ever had displayed on the trip computer is 39.8 doing between 55-60, no matter what I did I couldn't get the extra .2MPG.

Normal motorway driving it's 33-35MPG, anything faster than 70 the MPG plummets. Town driving is about 30, same as OP.

The lowest I've seen is 8MPG round brands hatch.

so much for modern engines, those figures are rubbish. i doubt its quick or particularly powerful either

You've obviously never driven one then :)

Thanks guys. Seems like I'm getting pretty much what you lot are. I tend to do about 80+ on the motorway so I guess 30-32MPG isn't too shabby.

I've got a trip planned from Cardiff to Newcastle this weekend so I'll stick the cruise control on at about 70-75mph and see if I can make it on 1 tank.

I get a pretty steady 32mpg out of each tank out of a manual Golf 2l TFSI, around 60-70mph you can get 40mpg out of it at 80-90mph it hangs around 30mpg ish after 90mph its in the late 20s.

Problem with modern cars is not the engines its the weight of the things along with the fact most run 18" alloys which doesn't help either, a MK5 GTi is almost twice the weight with twice the power but still returns slightly better MPG as a Mk1 GTI with almost half the emissions.

You drop a 2LTFSI in a Mk1/2 Golf it would do 40mpg+ with relative ease.

The figures are always out by about 5-8 mpg so not much to worry about, I went for the diesel option and it gives the mpg the manufacturer says only when I drive on the motorway being extra careful.

ah... missed the T... only saw FSI.

in that case, why are you moaning? id says thats a respectable score.

does the mk5 have an instantaneous mpg guage?

I have an S3 with the 2.0T engine and on swift run through the countryside it does not drop much below 30 mpg. It is more thirsty when cold or when you are giving it major welly
