VW Golf Mk6 GTD - opinions?

Picked this up a while ago, really nice car actually though the list price was silly expensive for what you get. Looks a lot nicer than the standard 'GT' models I see going around and is fairly quick too.

All screwed together very well - puts the Focus to shame.

Nice car? Yes, definately. Worth buying if you've £21k burning a hole? No - so much more out there for the money...

That looks pretty smart Ste, what are they like for equipment level? the MK5 GTI was a bit spartan imo.

Im not really a fan of Golfs, but the 2 MK6's I test drove were very nice places to sit and the ride and handling were pretty decent, I definately have something like that over the base spec 1 series':)

We need a Golf and Passat forum, Robbie G and Blicklines or whatever his name is could be mods, it would be fun......honest.

Did you spend £21,000 on that?

No, company car - choices were VW, Seat, Skoda or Toyota and <160g/km CO2 (i.e. no Golf GTI).

It's ok equipment wise (better than the focus), but a lot of stuff I'd have expected is optional. It's got dual zone climate, a smart stereo (though I paid extra for the touchscreen dynaudio kit) electric/heated everything and pointless little german things like the ability to select how bright the footwell lights are etc. It's got full radio control etc. on the steering wheel (skipping ipod songs and watching the names of the tracks skip by on the HUD is never tiring) and cruise control was an option but a very cheap one.

It's missing electric folding mirrors, which is a crime, and there aren't many 'cool toys' included.

A fully specced one of these is >£30k

That's a great idea. They'd be forced to post their VW related tripe in there and we wouldn't have to see any of it :D

Out of those I would have took the Golf aswell.

It's ok when the company is spending money on a car but blowing that amount yourself is disastrous :p

I'm not that keen on the Mk6 either but yours looks really good in black. The front just looks 'right' for some reason. Any other colour and it's wrong.

Totally agree - my 'realistic' dream car is a new Focus RS - to think that, with the options/spec I had, this Golf was probably within £2k of one of those, it's a bit... anyone buying one with their own cash needs to be shot

Agree with the looks too - it had to be a black one, the plastic guff at the front end always make these kind of cars look cheap in anything but black. It's pearlescant - photo doesn't do the finish justice, it's really nice in person. Wheels suit it too, the standard 17"s are too small

I really like that in black, but I just couldnt live with a black car day to day, they just only ever look good after they have been washed for at most 10 mins:p

As an aside Company cars arent really free, just a cost effective way of motoring.

My old ST cost me £100 a month inc unlimited fuel, so that did end up being free with the amount of private miles I did:p

The Honda costs me closer to £140 a month.

Hopefully by the time the lease on this is up (3 years) I'll have been promoted into a role where you can choose any car regardless of make/emission... fingers crossed!

You're right about the black, you should see the swirl marks that *one* go through the car wash put all over it, gutted. Meguires to the rescue, only took 3 hours to do 1/3rd of the car :P

Costings me about £120 a month as there was a slight trade up and the rest is tax. But considering you get tax, insurance, all wear/tear etc. and no depreciation to worry about it's not bad at all. My ST cost more than that a month in insurance and tax alone :)

Sounds alright to me, a company car is a company car I suppose. I'd never buy one with my own money though.

£30k for a fully specced Golf though, yikes ...you could buy a Mustang GT for that, and get a 'proper' engine too.

Worse, actually!

For the OP - don't forget that any extras you've specced on top of the monthly cost of the lease are tax deductible. It'll save you a few pounds over the 3 years.

Even more astonishingly, if you're set on a VW then for £305 less you can have a Passat CC GT V6, which is 300bhp, much better looking and much better specced.

Comparing the price of the ultimate spec with everything is a bit stupid though as nobody orders that.

Why not focus on the fact an Audi A3 2.0 TDI 170 S-Line is cheaper than a Golf GT TDI 170?

How in the name of god did that happen? What does the Golf has that the Audi doesnt!?
