VW Golf Shift indicator

Not sure if it's like this for all VAG cars but my mk 2 leon I think has 2 sets. 1 for eco but when you WOT it goes dark and then another shift indicator will appear at what looks like the perfect upshift point for continued acceleration.

I have a similar question with the Audi S3. Bloody thing thinks I should be in 6th when I'm going 40mph. I've had a good rummage around in the menus, but can't find anything that lets me turn that off.

You should be able to turn it off...check your MMI settings.

I can't really confirm where that setting would be on a new A3.

Mine has me in 5th at 40 which is perfectly fine. Don't really understand the problem because I shift up at 2k revs if I'm not trying to get anywhere fast.

Put a piece of masking tape over it, or maybe just look at the road in front of you when you're driving. That way it is safer for us other road users. What a meaningless thread...

What would be safer is if the driver has fewer distractions. And the car trying to be its own backseat driver is distracting. Believe me, it is. The car can't read the road ahead, it can't see the traffic conditions, it has no business telling the driver what gear they should be in.

I have to say the shift indicator in my 2015 focus ST seems rather intelligent, when not in a hurry (as in not 100% throttle) it suggests shifting at about 2000rpm, whenever you plant your foot to the floor the indicator won't come on untill the optimal shifting rpm for maximum acceleration.
