Hi I have had my VW Polo car diagnosed; VW centre informed N80 solenoid valve and canister for cf system and software update to 2.0 is required to fix the start up problem.

Is it essential for this software update to be done ? VW are advising without this software update the car wont function correctly ?

Any advice is welcome thanks

A software update is fine to have done, unless you've had it remapped. Think of the update file as a remap file. The new file overwrites the existing. As far as I'm aware, software updates should be free from the dealer. They are normally done as part of a service without the customer knowing.

thanks mushtafa

I only ask since the mechanic at my local garage said once he installs both parts required to fix my car problem he said the light will show on the dash board (think he said ignition light) and a software update to 2.0 will be required to remove that light on the dashboard so the car can be used again properly. A charge of £50 has been quoted, so I found this a bit strange was unsure if this was genuine or not.

Was it a dealership?

I've replaced throttle bodies before and had to update software for it to run properly.

I assume this quote was from an independent garage? Perhaps they have to buy this update to put on your car? I expect the £50 they've quoted is to cover their cost of the equipment/software required to do the update, general diagnostics/coding, and to erade any faults etc.

This doesn't sound a bad price. The small independent I work for charge £45+VAT for diagnostics

thanks yeah it was local dealer since vw center was more pricey, if the software is needed to get the car going again guess its gotta be done, this guys charging 50 quid for labour and then 50 for the software update for those 2 parts above, I just thought maybe that extra 50 quid sounded fishy but sounds ok if its required as you say.

Its a VW polo, cheers
