I'm thinking about getting a chip for my van but not sure what reputable companies are out there.

Looking for a small boost rather than massive tuning, most sites as suggest a boost from 102 bhp to 130 bhp which his ideal.

Quite a few places are claim mpg gains too, is this BS? I can't see me getting much more than 36-40mpg from a 2.5 5cyl diesel!

Look for a owners club website or vehicle specific forum, they quite often have group purchasing deals for things like this. and reviews to go with it.

Remaps can result in better mpg IF you drive sensibly. If you make use of the extra power and go hooning, it will probably be worse than before.

Most maps are 'rich' from the factory. Remaps take out a lot of the safety in the original map (allowing for poor fuel, missed services, revving from cold, etc etc), so you end up with a leaner fuel map.

I think the above is, broadly speaking, correct.

Only if they run open loop. Most cars will run closed loop for fuelling under part throttle.

Any gains will be due to ignition Timing changes

Check out the T4 Forum.

Our 2000 T4 2.5TDi 102 was mapped and decat by the previous owner to 140+bhp.
I can't remember who did it, will have to try and find the invoice.
It does indeed give mpg gains but as already said... if driven sensibly. But also when you do stick the boot in you definitely feel it!

I tried the places mentioned above but they don't do maps for vans. After some digging on the T4 forum this site seems to get talked about a lot http://www.pendleperformance.com. Price is £275 which isn't bad at all.

I do a lot of mileage at a sedate pace so I would probably see good mpg gains by the sounds of it.

What is the power delivery like with the remap, is there more bottom end, more of a kick when the turbo comes in or less bottom end more top end?

I live within 5 miles of the Pendle Performance setup and have met Martin the owner a couple of times... Online and within the VW community he and his business seem very well respected, locally and personally he isn't. IMO, he's rude, aggressive and when I spoke to him about Rolling Roading and Mapping my T4 he was very arrogant, condescending and un-professional. Luckily, after speaking to the previous owner of my T4 (AVC) I found it had already undergone plenty of work and is running ~150bhp, im getting 36-38mpg from my Van.
