VXR Track Days are Back!

good value for money pity theres no knockhill

ho hum i guess me and the taxi will be doing the GMSC tracknights again this year, would have been nice to show someone elses car no mechanical sympathy

2.8 280bhp edition ?
I'm sure there's not much in it between the 280 and the 255. There's no more torque but a bit more power over 4500rpm. Also, the suspension tweaks were really geared for better fast road use which I doubt will yield any benefit on the track. Either way though, they're very quick!

The cars are all the current models, so the Vectra's will be the 280PS versions.

Last year there were about 30 per group, and IIRC 28 cars plus 2 "Performance lap" cars driven by BTCC drivers at Donnigton so there was almost no wating around for track time. The handling activities involve a bit of waiting around.

You can't use your own car on the track.

Doubt they sold any Vectras on the strength of their on-track performance last year. Got understeer? The thing was outhandled by a Meriva.

The 280 Vec handled better than my old 260 Saab 95 and understeer wasn't as bad either. I doubt the Meriva outhandled it. It's more likely the power was more suited to the chassis and it felt better. There's more traction and grip in the Vec but the huge torque [too much] can cause problems if the corners aren't judged correctly.

The Vec can't be THAT bad if driven properly

It would be interesting to see how the 280 Vec compares now as its more powerful and has better handling. The original test was with the 255.

I'm not disputing the times but how are so many of those cars above a Vanquish? 460bhp, 542Nm, 0-60 in 4.9s, 186mph top speed. Now I know they weigh a lot but still!

As a "my first trackday" would you guys recommend this? Done a fair bit of karting (including wet) and I've been offered a trackday as a late 21'st, would like to do something that is more than 3 laps at turtlepace.

It was my first ever track day and its great, you can just start of slow and get to know the tracks, when to turn in and brake, the instructor at the side will guide you and either egg you on to go a bit faster or to slow down.
