Just wondering if anyone had heard if vauxhall were doing VXR trackdays again for 2010? Really enjoyed it last year and thought it was around February time when it was announced for last years venues/dates.

Has anyone heard anything about this year? :)

Not heard anything yet but I hope so!

Must admit I was suprised the one actually happened last year as I thought with the financial climate that something like that would be cut. I cant see VX making any money from these and they probably make a large loss from all of the costs.

Not sure if it was just at Brands, but Paul Swift was absent last year possibly to save money and the guys doing the slalom course were much stricter with how the cars were treated.

That's a shame, the one I went to was with Paul Swift and I thrashed the hell out of that car

Booking forms go on-line "end of february" so any time in the next couple of weeks. I'll keep you posted as soon as they do.

I'm going to the croft one on July 28th if you fancy a meet up ? Provided you turn up to the same session we can just ask to all be included in the same group :)

I prefer the morning sessions as they are usually a bit quieter, most people cant be arsed be to be there for 9am so you find it easier to get a car.

So what do you get for £95? Is it the same as the experience days that are sold everywhere? Looks quite interesting!

not at all

You get an outlap, a flying lap, then an in lap with an instructor. Then you join a bus stop style Queue for another car to go out in.

There are no dual controls, no rev limiters, no limtis on speed. Just the knowledge that if you arse about, they'll bring you in and throw you out. So do as the instructors tell you and drive sensibly. Overtaking is allowed providing the other instructor waves you across (they are very good about doing this and can see when a faster driver is behind)

Top tip, go for one of the least popular and older cars (eg the astra VXR) and you need never queue. Last year everybody ran for the VXR8s, this year it will be the insignia VXR. I had the same instructor none stop for 45 minutes last year. Each time we came in, there was nobody queuring and about 4 or 5 astras sat doing nothing. So we went back out again. In the end we didnt bother comming up and just went round and round. I learnt a hell of a lot about the lines, and track driving and really improved the smoothness of my laps. Was excellent fun.

Then went and drove the VXR8, when it was much quieter towards the end of the session :) Didnt bother with the Corsa or the Zafira.

Ha, i literally checked this out last nite! For £95 i will be going to a couple of them! Bit annoyed they aren't doing Brands Hatch this year as it's quite a nice track.

MrLOL you could have done them for £25 if you still had your VXR :(

Official website is here: http://www.vxrpowerevents.co.uk/

Croft was disappointing after Oulton Park, facilities and the track are a big step down. I'd still consider it though, such a bargain for the seat time you get.

I know :(

They have a load of events specific to VXR owners thsi year too. Shame really but the car just wasnt practical to keep giving i never knew what was going to fail next.

Same experience here, i'd say about 65% of my time was in the Astra, 15% in the Corsa and 15% in the VXR8 and 5% Insignia SRI. I found the Corsa to be the most fun, but underpowered, the Astra to have the balance of power/handling and the VXR8 was very "heavy" in comparison - however, it made a sublime noise :D

The instructors were awesome - many if not all were competitive racing drivers. They gave me so many pointers on how to do new things and actively encouraged me to try them out. If i had the option of not having them there, i wouldn't have taken it.

Just be careful though, somebody binned a VXR8 when i was there which will have cost a lot of money (£750 excess iirc) for the driver.

Spent most my time in an Astra. When I got into the same Astra for the thrid time (near the end of the session) the instructor just said for me to stay with him (if I was happy to do so) and just do lap after lap with him, chatting and learning how to drive better. In the end I had 7+ flying laps with him.

Don't forget that each instructor will be different, so what one will tell you about driving style will be grilled by another one just as you have started to learn.

Amazing fun and well worth the money. Spent most of my time in the Astra as I just wanted as much track experience as possible. The VXR8 was gutsy, sounded great, but was a bit of a barge and unpredictable especially as the instructor in this one was very strick. But someone did stack one into the barrier on the previous day

Will let my mates know so we can plan it, and possibly get onto rockingham this year as we did Brands last year.

Sounds amazing value! What's Anglesey like?

Thinking of treating myself to a day if I get the job I've got an interview for next week, and Anglesey probably the only date I can really do!

Definately going to try and get on one of these this time :)

Same.

Was always annoyed you had to be 21 to do these, but thats fair enough...fingers crossed I can get one :D - Their Astras should be safe, no ditches about :p

None in the midlands, how gash.

Snetterton is the closest for me and will avoid the M25 aids route of commuter death.
