Anyone else have a problem with their RAM not flushing after you've extracted something from an archive? When either unzipping something or installing a program from an exe, my RAM stays sitting at whatever percentage it was at whilst it was being used. Happens with winrar, 7zip, exe's.....nothing I can do will flush the memory back to normal with the exception of a restart.

Win7 x64 ult. Pagefile system managed.

Any suggestions for a solution, or is there a way to manually flush the ram? I've tried the "%windir%\system32\rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks" command and it doesn't work.

Try letting windows manage the pagefile and see what happens then.

I assume that's what he meant when he said 'system managed'.

In the processes tab of task manager, does anything show up as using all the memory?
If not, try running a game, preferably a new and demanding one that would need as much ram as possible, see if it runs as usual. If it does, its probably not an issue.

There's no one instance in explorer that's using a huge amount. installed a game earlier and the memory has been stuck at 40% usage since. I've got 6gb physical so it's not a real problem generally, but if I wanted to run flight simulator or do somethign on photoshop or vegas then I'll need to do a restart as the remaining memory will get eaten up pretty quickly.

As there's nothing in particular using the memory, it seems it's a problem with windows not recognising that the memory is now free again. Saw this in the RC version as well but not in Vista or XP, meaning it's not hardware related.
