Wait For GTX480???

i don't see any reason not to wait two weeks. You can at least then see for yourself what the new nvidia cards are like rather than going on speculation.
I know this is unlikely but you will just be annoyed with yourself if Nvidia bring out the 480GTX and it turns out to be faster than the 5870 for the same price.
Unlikely,but worth waiting two weeks for surely.
Mind you, i have to say that powercolour Dirt 2 edition 5870 for £295.98 is looking very tempting.

same and i dont care if its ati i go with or nvidia i just want a decent Dx11 card after waiting so long
Wait, for 2 reasons,
1, Fermi is close and once the reviews start pouring in you can make an informed choice, no guess work required.
2, Rumour has it that ATI already has a Fermi counter card in the wings, which you can be sure is faster than the 5870. (No links for rumours, but one of the Anand articles mentions this ATI counter card so I think there may be some truth in it).

Patience is a virtue and should be rewarded I guess.
Only possible downside is that prices may go up rather than down in the short term (if Fermi turns out to be a flop and supply remains tight on ATi cards, for example) but would consider that less likely than more. Depends on £/$ rates as well though and some analysts are suggesting £ has further to fall.
That's assuming you're buying in the UK ofc, etc etc, consult your Independant Financial Advisor/Solictor etc, no warranty is made as to merchantibility or fitness for any particular purpose, express or implied, etc, etc.
Actually, I'd just do what I always do, and have just done, which is buy the best available within my budget at the time.
Waiting for new tech is a suckers game. Having said that, I'm waiting on the Experia X10 before I upgrade, so I guess I'm a hypocrite as well as giving useless advice.

Yea that's the only problem with computers in general.
It's one of those time versus money things that it is up to personal preference if you get what I'm saying? i.e. buy now and play games at high details or wait and buy later and by the time you've waited...you could wait for the next thing...it feels like it will go on forever.

There are two good reasons for waiting for the 6000 series if you don't need OpenCL / DX Compute or desperately want to upgrade immediately:
1) DX11 will probably only be really widespread around the time the 6000 series is released and
2) The 6000 series is due Q1 next year, just like the 5000 series was this year; there are expectations from various sources that it will arrive Q4 this year as the 5000 series did. By the time Fermi 1 is released and available we'll be half way to the 6000 series release.
If you've waited all this time already there isn't much point jumping in half way through a generation unless you upgrade every 6 months, even less value for money than usual with only half an upgrade cycle to go.

But it is actually good advice he's giving. Fermi wont be openly available to buy until well after the 6 series is released, the six series will be the DX11 card to have IMO.
