Wait, is an i5-3450 doing this?

I do have it currently overclocked to 3.85ghz, but after a 1 hour session of Crysis 2, I "Alt-Tabbed" out and went to the task manager to see my CPU load. I've never done this. I always checked my GPU temps in a GPU Tweak. I always hear people recommending i5-2500k's and i5-3570k's or even i7's and completely downplay the lower end models for... gaming. Now, Crysis 2 is a demanding game so it's not like I'm running Solitaire and amazed at the CPU load. Crysis 2 was set to 1080p at Ultra detail settings with DX11 enabled and High-res textures....

This is the CPU load right after Alt-tabbing out of Crysis 2 in a heated battle.

Those coloured numbers in your task bar next to the microsoft security essentials icon are extremely high if there temprature figures! 108, 113, 127 and 117!

hehe yeh thats crazy but why is the one showing 127 in green, it should be glowing red and punching you in the face

it has to be wrong it would have auto shutdown by now!?

Try using a different software to check temps. Ie HW Monitor

Also what CPU cooler are you using and re-seat if possible, run Prime to check temps whilst not game playing to.

You sure CoreTemp isn't setup to report temps in Fahrenheit rather than Celsius?

I told it to report in Fahrenheit. I don't read temps in Celsius. 127F right after Alt-Tabbing out of Crysis 2 on a overclocked Ivy-Bridge CPU is pretty damn good to me. Oh yea, the CPU cooler is a Spire Thermax Eclipse II.

Lol, you guys know that there's something called Fahrenheit right?

God bless noobs lol

You should have had some fun and told them "The rig is running "Maximum armour" mode it'll be fine" ;)

We don't have anything against the non K CPUs. However we often spec Z series mobos and seeing as it allows overclocking it makes sense to add a multiplier unlocked CPU aka "K". My HTPC is only a Phenom II 555BE @4Ghz and a 1GB 460 (@850-900Mhz) and even that games pretty well, smashes any current gaming console which is all that matters to me really.

What are you running in your rig bud?

What are you running in your rig bud?

GPU: HIS IceQ X HD7850 at ( 1220/5500mhz )
RAM: G. Skill 1333mhz 8gb ( 2x4gb )
Motherboard: Biostar TZ77XE3
PSU: Rosewill HIVE 650w ( 80+ Bronze )
SDD/HDD: 128gb Crucial M4/500gb Seagate Barracuda 7,200rpm
Case: Cooler Master HAF 912

Crysis 2 only got demanding after they added the high-res texture packs, I'm pretty sure that only taxed the GPU rather than the CPU.

Yeah that's quite nice......Good overclock on that 7850 too :D

Some games are more CPU intensive than others fella, they can also favour AMD or Nvidia.

It's tricky balancing builds to a budget. Minimum we shoot for is the i3, money allowing we try for the i5K. You have to remember that the K editions also have a better IGP......why does this matter?

Well quicksync is used to help video encoding (it's actually very good) and that uses the IGP. As does lucid MVP on the Z77 mobos, it can switch between the IGP and GPU to save power. When gaming the IGP can provide a boost to the GPU, so it has it's uses ;)

I don't want to bore everyone to death with all the concerns of balancing builds but hopefully you get why we choose the K CPUs....nowt really wrong with what you are running for gaming :D

Try running the game with graphics turned right down, CPU usage should increase... at 1080P Ultra etc it will be bottlenecked by the GPU.

Lucid Virtu MVP is useless. It lowers your minimum FPS and only boosts your average or max FPS if it's already above 60 FPS.

A person much wiser than me once said "Better to say nothing and let people thinking you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and leave no doubt".

But to be honest I just read this and lolled pretty hard.

haha shutup!
i wasnt the only one tricked! was trolled ok... :o

Why would you want to do that?

I just don't get what the problem is here?

He is saying why buy a 2500K/2600K when his low end quad is barely utilised in Crysis at 1080P-Ultra.

I'm saying that if you are not GPU bottlenecked then the CPU will be used more, when you're bottlenecked by the GPU the CPU spends most of its time waiting around.
