Im just wondering if there is any truth to the rumor that Intel are going to bring out a new revision of IB which fixes the cheapness that they tried to pull with the first release of the IB chips?
 
No offense but whats min temp got to do with it? I can idle at 22C with the aircon in my room keeping ambient at 15C with an IB :p dosen't mean much, load temps still touch 70-72C at 4.6Ghz and 78-80C in 29C ambient.

Agree with this. It is a very nice chip and overclocks nicely tbh. People suspected to much I think wanting overclocks at 5+. To do this would be stupid on intel part as they want people to buy haswell next year.

Yes temps get a bit high once voltages hit certain amount but honestly 90% people can get stable overclocks at 4.4-.4.5 on fairly low voltages with good temps. 4.5 = 4.8-4.9 on sandy system. (not 100% sure on the sandy figures about right tho)
 
Just get an ivy and change the tim yourself if its that much of an issue. Or if you don't want to hack a chip and heat is a concern get a sandy.

Them making Ivy more clockable would not hurt sales one bit as the overclocking community is a grain of sand in an ocean of stock speed users. TBH i've done only one delidding and TIM change with my own 3770k, thus voiding my warranty but the extra 300MHz (was hitting 95C at 4.8Ghz 1.38v, Noctua NHD-14 with 4.5Ghz being the 'best' at only 84C @ 1.32v tops) was worth it. Now at 4.8Ghz 1.385v and top out at 76C in 28-30C ambient.

+1 to them not fixing it.

really there is nothing wrong with it... it work's as it's supposed to.

granted the thermal material used could be better to accommodate for the extreme overclockers out there but it's such a small % of their consumer base seeing as about 98% (complete rough figure) of the chips will just be running at stock any way in office pc's and such.

it's kinda like asking why don't nissan fit micras with k&n filters and sports exhausts..... because most of the people buying them won't need it xD it would be nice to have the option but if ya dead set on more performance you can just DIY (like a bunch of us have in the other thread). I ripped the lid off mine and reap the benefits of cooler temps.. but it was a bit hairy removing it... "hit or miss" i would describe it... and luckily i "missed".... the siclicone die with the craft knife that is xD
 
I think what Intel should have really done since the K chips are aimed specifically at the overclocking section of the market is just used better TIM in the K chips after all we pay a premium for the damn things.
