Wait What???

Link say only electrical work to be illegal. Might be worth mentioning that in the OP :D

I personally don't tinker (that much at all) with electrics.

That may be so, But A lot of the car nowadays is electrical. Would put a stop to getting remaps done. (although i know it wont actually stop it)

Isn't modifying the ECU already illegal in a number of countries? Hardly seems like a big thing to make changing electrical settings illegal by unauthorised people.

Don't really see the issue tbh?

So would this include coding settings that were disabled from the factory, for example coding windows to open/shut with the key if not done by an authorised dealer??

This wont happen surly.

Unless you fancy being fiscally raped, I see an issue.

I've enabled a number of features on my current car, and retrofitted a number of others on previous cars that had I used the main dealer, they'd either have charged me thousands (over the years) or told me that such tasks are "impossible".

EU are already working on the equivalent law. They want to ban all modifications. The car has to conform with the original specification when it was first registered.

Just because you did it doesn't mean everyone does. I expect 99% of car owners are unaware that the computers in their cars could be recoded.

Hell I doubt most people even know that there are computers controlling their car at all! Most people are ignorant of how cars work became frankly they don't need to be.

With the US lack of a proper MOT system, I can see some sense in their argument. Doesn't apply here though

Most cars don't fail an MOT because they have a new CD player in them. They generally fail on brakes, suspension and light bulbs.

It's illegal to do a lot of things, but people are still doing them... Downloading, breaking the speed limit, stealing pens from Argos and pencils from Ikea...!

This very minute I'm breaking five laws (that I am aware of), including smoking right by the sign of a no-smoking area... and I'm still not being arrested, questioned, challenged or even noticed by anyone!!

This will probably never happen here and even if it does, people will find ways around it. Still not sure how your 'Infotainment' system can supposedly pirate stuff, though...
