Firstly, apologies if this breaks any competitor rules - please remove if it does, don't want to be breaking any rules :)

I ordered a laptop and mouse from Dell last weekend, unfortunately my CC company can't add a secondary address so I couldn't set my delivery address to the office like I normally would. I work 9-5 Mon-Fri so I was just going to take a day off when it was due to be delivered, no big deal.

They split the mouse into a separate order (which took 3 days to "build"!!) but I assumed they would send by post/normal courier, but they have just dispatched it by Walsh Western. There's no way I'm going to take a day off work for a 20 quid mouse (laptop's not due till start of Nov), so what options do I have? A lot of couriers will leave parcels outside my front door (private hallway) but the Dell FAQ says they wont leave it around or with a neighbour etc etc. I can't be the only one who works full time and have ordered from Dell - so what's the process normally? Can I collect from a depot somewhere?

Ta!

Walsh Western pass the deliveries onto TNT in the UK and you'll definitely be able to collect from the depot or have them redeliver :).

Aha - I was just reading a thread on a random site through google, saying they use different subcontractors for different areas - one bloke said he had a man in a taxi turn up

Hopefully it's TNT - the depot isn't far from me :)

It should be TNT, and if you're in Plymouth it will be Exeter depot. Bear in mind you will probably need at least 2 forms of ID when you collect, at least one with a picture as Walsh Western are quite strict about letting us have people collect the goods from depots.

My license stays with me at all times, so that plus bank card plus the delivery card should do it :)

Will probably still take the day off work for the laptop itself, but I just can't get a day off for a mouse - would be a waste!

Yeah I know what you mean. If you need anything special arranging let me know and I'll try and sort something out.

Ah yeh - you work for TNT dont you? :)

I'm sure it'll be fine but I'll ask if anything goes pear shaped! Cheers!

Lopez, have you ever been to TNT Slough? Once I'd put on my high vis vest which the guard demanded I wear, I feel confident I could have walked off with pretty much anything I wanted from their warehouse. I don't believe I signed for the £5,000 of Dell servers I collected or even had my ID checked.

Granted this was a couple of years ago and I do have a very trustworthy face ;).

Yeah I've been to Slough - actually they are the depot I deal with most often as I look after one of their big accounts.
Let's just say they have had an almost completely new management team in the last 2 years....

That's reassuring. I must admit I've never had anything go missing or be damaged which is more than I can say for other couriers.
