They ignored the sign in the window saying 'this car has no petrol no battery, won't start or run and contains no valuables', popped the passenger lock, opened the drivers door, snapped off the shroud, tried to hotwire it, realised it really does have no petrol and battery and buggered off.

They left the bottle of Duckhams behind the passenger seat though...And the Haynes manual on the passenger seat.

On the plus side, the Shuv looks nails under flourescent lighting...Wait until I get my new wheels on!

There's nothing to steal in it, you can't steal it...why bother?

One word - retards.

The wiring doesn't look too "hacked at" - when some tard tried to hotwire my scoob it looked like half cut spaghetti. When you say they popped the lock - have they gone through the door skin?

Nope - stuck a hook in the keyhole and yanked the bugger out.

I'm stubborn though - I'll smooth off the passenger door locks, leave the wires hanging from the steering column, fit a fuel tap, remote ignition and remote starter button.

...Then paint it NATO green ;)

Just watch out it doesn't look dumped or they will take it anyway. When my Anglia was half on the road it looked crap and hadn't moved for weeks. Someone slashed a couple of the tyres to see if it was being used or whatever. Reckon it was local ****** looking for scrap.

You can't get a van, truck or trailer near it to remove it.

As it stands, the only way to steal it is to remove the (hidden) line lock and push it.

850Kg car uphill for a mile? Pfffft!

theres a really nice chevett just round the corner from me, I keep meaning to stop and get some photos for you penski, looks in great condition and is painted bright orange :D

Err, its not that they are stupid, its because they probably thought the sign could simply be a deterent.

However they are stupid leaving behind some of their stuff.

Morons and scum either way.

its like they monkeys... they were cuirious when the saw the sign ;)

So who reckons 7" wide fronts and 10" wide rears will fit on without arches?

The stock wheels are 5" wide with 155/50s.

Yea I would not display a sign, just leave it flat on the seat. They got a little buzz from bashing it up so its not like they care anyway.

Just the shroud broke then ?
After I had this done to a Montego, any key would open the door usefull because I was always locking myself out of it :p They turned the steering wheel oval trying to break the steering lock (it held and the wheel distorted instead )so I got a nice leather wheel from the scrappys for a fiver :D

Iam surprised they didnt rip those extra headlights off to be honest :/

Another time I had a Volvo parked up for a week, the starter motor had failed and I had to fix it myself since I had no breakdown cover and it was at the bottom of a hill. I caught the train to work for a week and left it parked, it had just a few leaves on the front windscreen and some muppet came along on a friday and ripped both wingmirrors off, left them dangling by their electrical wiring :/ People will have a go for all sorts of reasons, just having it look slightly disused was enough for them

I used to work with a guy who was a ex car thief. I remember one of his stories about the easiest car he ever nicked, yep it was a Chevette. I think he opened the lock with a 1p coin or something equally silly.

you can open the boot of a mk1 escort with a 5p coin...

i dont know if we should be saying whatc rs you can open with coins etc, but while we are hear, lol i locked my keys in the mini by accident and a screwdriver, to my horror opend the lock as easy as the key, and you can now use a coin in the lock with no trouble. well i have new locks now but after that it was the case for a while.
