I used to work with a guy who was a ex car thief. I remember one of his stories about the easiest car he ever nicked, yep it was a Chevette. I think he opened the lock with a 1p coin or something equally silly.

I read somewhere a mkI fiesta is break-able into with any slim coin. You undo the number plate with it and you can use it as a slim jim because the door to window seal's so floppy you can fit it down there and pop the lock!

This is only what I've read, mind, so I don't know how much truth there is to it.

Am I the only one to think they must have been a bit dim to try and steal an old chevette with no petrol or battery when they could have tried to steal that right nice convertible behind in the pic? :p

Sorry to hear about it dude, I know how it feels. I hope it don't cost you too much to fix the damage.

If by 'right nice' you mean 'poverty-spec Merc that's been repaired 4 times in the last 12 months alone' then yeah, you have a point... :p

It's not whether you can get in...Hell, you can get in any car with the right bits and determination.

It's whether you can drive it away.

I guess your definition of 'bits' is a can of petrol and a battery then ? :p

I've now realised why your chevette looks funny, Its those black/silver number plates on a late car.
My old work mate used to have a chevette about that kind of age and the glass used to fall off the headlamps quite often, he eventually got a kit of special brackets that secured the glass around the edges.
